Dr. Comfort Adokwe, a lecturer at Nasarawa State University who was kidnapped on Sunday, has been set free.
The incident occurred when gunmen abducted Dr. Adokwe from her residence in Angwan Jaba, Keffi. She is a lecturer in the Faculty of Administration at the university and serves as Deputy Director of Gender Studies.
Confirming her release, Timothy Adokwe, her brother, stated that she was released around 8:30 in the evening. Initially, the kidnappers had demanded a N100 million ransom, and while the family did pay an undisclosed amount to secure her release, the exact sum remains undisclosed.
Timothy expressed his gratitude to the military and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their efforts in securing his sister’s freedom. He noted that they had to monitor the situation via satellite as they could not directly enter the location.
Dr. Adokwe is currently at an undisclosed hospital for a medical checkup, and she has been reunited with her husband and daughter.
Timothy Adokwe called on the government to ensure that development reaches areas dominated by kidnappers. He also highlighted that the Vice-Chancellor of the university, who was previously kidnapped, was rescued from the same location.
