The Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area in Kogi State, Hon. Amoka Monday, has declared a curfew across the entire council area, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order ahead of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s planned homecoming rally.
In a statement personally signed by the chairman on Monday, the curfew takes immediate effect and aligns with the recent ban on political rallies and unauthorized public gatherings, as directed by the Kogi State Government and the Commissioner of Police.
“The curfew restricts movement and gatherings in designated areas. Anyone found loitering or assembling without proper clearance from the relevant authorities will be arrested and prosecuted,” the statement warned.
Hon. Monday emphasized that the decision is aimed at ensuring peace and security, especially as tensions rise ahead of the senator’s visit.
This development follows the Kogi Police Command’s recent advisory, urging Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her planned rally over security risks. However, the senator has insisted that her visit to Kogi Central will proceed as scheduled, dismissing claims that she intends to cancel her Eid celebration plans.
Residents have been urged to comply with the curfew and cooperate with security agencies to prevent any potential unrest.
