The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 35-year-old zoo worker, Babaji Daule, who was killed by a lion at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta on Saturday.
In a statement released on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Daule, a lion handler originally from Bauchi State, had failed to properly secure the locks and barricade of the lion’s enclosure before attempting to feed the animal.
This oversight reportedly allowed the lion to escape and attack him, causing fatal injuries to his neck.
The victim’s body was later transported to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital. The lion was shot by authorities to release its grip on the handler.
