Six bodies were recovered and many are still missing after suspected armed Fulani herdsmen attacked Ogbaulu community in Agatu Local Government on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Ogbaulu community has been under frequent attacks by armed herders for the past two weeks, leading to numerous killings and destructions.
The latest attack began at around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as well-armed Fulani herdsmen appeared from different locations and started shooting sporadically at Ogbaulu Market, destroying shops and killing anyone on sight.
According to eyewitness and Youth leader of Ogbaulu community, Comr Adole Jose Ehoda, the attackers were well-armed herdsmen who invaded the community through Imana road and other roads leading to the community.
‘’The herdsmen came through the road that linked Imana in Apa LGA with our community with the intention of overrunning our village. We have recovered six bodies, and more are still missing. When we dialed his line, it was picked up by one of the attackers, meaning he might have been killed too.
They also destroyed many shops, stole foodstuffs, and carted away motorcycles,’’ Adole said.
Another community member, Barr Napoleon Otache, condemned the ceaseless attacks and killings by the marauders in Ogbaulu and other communities in Agatu and Agatu LGAs.
He criticized the slow pace of response by the security agencies to all ongoing attacks and called on the Federal Government to end the endless genocide in Benue State.
In his reaction to the attack, the Caretaker Chairman of Agatu LGA, Hon. Yakubu Ochohepo, assured the people of Agatu Local Council of a quick end to the renewed insecurity so that those displaced could return home and continue with their farming activities, appreciating the Federal Government for deploying more military troops to Agatu.”
