BREAKING: Many feared dead as suspected herdsmen launch fresh attack on Benue communities
Benue State was plunged into mourning early Saturday following a fresh wave of violent attacks allegedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen, leaving several people feared dead and numerous homes set ablaze.
IDOMA VOICE reports that the coordinated assault targeted multiple communities in Tombo Mbaya, Buruku Local Government Area, and extended to neighboring Mbachoughu and Mbanyagber in Tarka LGA.
Villages including Ortese Mbaatsua, Garagboughul, Usen, Tomahar, and Tse Damkor were hit hardest, with eyewitnesses describing scenes of chaos as terrified residents fled en masse to escape the violence.
A local source confirmed that many displaced families have now sought shelter in nearby towns, grappling with the trauma and devastation left in the wake of the attack.
The full scale of casualties and damage is yet to be confirmed as the situation continues to unfold.
