Naira Marley fails to appear in Court, case adjourned

Nigerian musician Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, who is facing charges related to cybercrime, was notably absent from his scheduled appearance at a Federal High Court in Lagos State on Monday.

The court decided to adjourn the proceedings until November 13 and 30 to continue the trial of the musician.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo made the decision to adjourn the case due to Naira Marley’s absence in court.

The charges against Naira Marley, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), revolve around cybercrime. The EFCC filed these charges on May 14, 2019.

Fashola, known for the popular song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” had been arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo on May 20, 2019, where he pleaded not guilty. The court subsequently granted him bail in the amount of two million naira, with two sureties in like sum.

The trial has been ongoing since then, but his absence on the last scheduled trial date on October 6 prompted Justice Oweibo to issue a production warrant for the defendant, following an application by the prosecution, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari.

Naira Marley and his associate, Sam Larry, had been detained by the police in Lagos in connection with the death of Nigerian artiste Oladimeji Aloba, also known as “Mohbad.”
