Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, presided over the administration of the oath of office to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the newly elected senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District during the plenary on Thursday. The Clerk of the Senate, Mr. Chinedu Akubueze, administered the oath at approximately 11:41 am.
Following the oath, she exchanged pleasantries with her colleagues and had a handshake with the Senate President, who presented her with a copy of the Senate Standing Rules. She was then guided to her seat by the sergeant-at-arms.
In a separate development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja confirmed Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the rightful candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held on February 25 of the current year, representing the Peoples Democratic Party.
The appeal filed by Senator Abubakar Ohere was dismissed for lacking merit. In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja had invalidated Ohere’s victory, declaring Akpoti-Uduaghan as the actual winner of the February senatorial poll. The appellate court has now upheld her as the rightful winner of the election.
