BREAKING: Niger Republic reopens land border with Nigeria
The government of Niger Republic has opened its land border with Nigeria, specifically in Konni, barely a week after the Nigeria Customs Service inaugurated the Illela land border between the two countries.
According to Nuhu Samaila, a source from Konni in Niger Republic, who briefed journalists, the border was officially reopened at precisely 12:00 pm on Friday.
He commended the decision of the country’s leadership, particularly the military junta, for attentively responding to the desires of the people by taking steps to reopen the border.
“This is a commendable effort on the part of the government, finally taking the necessary action,” he remarked.
“We had collectively hoped for the reopening of this border after the Nigeria side was declared open,” Samaila continued. “I strongly believe that this move will greatly benefit the economies of both countries, fostering increased trade activities between Nigeria and Niger Republic.”
It is recalled that last week Wednesday, the Nigerian government, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive, restored the supply of electricity to the Republic of Niger. This directive also included the reopening of Nigeria’s land and air borders with the neighboring country.
