BREAKING: Nigerian universities set admission cutoff at 140

Stakeholders in the education sector convened on Thursday to establish a minimum benchmark score of 140 for university admissions. However, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), clarified during a policy meeting in Abuja that this benchmark score does not uniformly determine admission cutoffs for all universities.

According to report, several institutions, including Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos, Covenant University in Ogun State, Obafemi Awolowo University in Osun State, and the University of Lagos, have proposed minimum benchmark scores of 200 and above.

Oloyede emphasized that JAMB does not set cutoff marks, but rather establishes a minimum benchmark score that universities cannot fall below. He cautioned against misconceptions about JAMB’s role in setting specific cutoffs, noting that each university determines its own benchmark score.
