BREAKING: Nigerian veteran actor, Jimi Solanke is dead

Renowned veteran actor and folk singer, Jimi Solanke, is dead.

Solanke passed away at the age of 81.

The iconic poet and playwright breathed his last on Monday while en route from his country residence in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan.

Chief Solanke had been battling health issues since December 2023, and his passing was confirmed by Dickson Awolaja, the representative of Remo North State Constituency in the state Assembly.

Hon Awolaja expressed sorrow over the loss, stating, “His death is no doubt another big loss to us in Remo North and Ogun State as a whole given his worthy contributions to the development of our dear nation. May his soul rest in peace.”

The departed artist, known as Uncle Jimi, gained fame for his notable roles in films such as Kongi’s Harvest, Sango, Shadow Parties, and more.
