The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has given a directive to Finland-based Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, to put an end to all sit-at-home protests in the Southeast region.
Kanu also urged Ekpa to refrain from antagonizing governors or politicians from the region. He emphasized that anyone enforcing sit-at-home orders in the southeast is not his disciple and should face legal consequences.
The directive was conveyed to Ekpa through Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, and was made public on Friday during a press briefing in Enugu.
In the message, Kanu stated, “Simon, this is a direct order from me. I hereby instruct you to desist from calling for any sit-at-home henceforth. Equally, refrain from antagonizing governors or persons in political positions because you are not in a position to know what they are doing on my behalf.
“I am ordering you to make a public announcement to the effect that you are in receipt of a direct order from me to cancel any pending sit-at-home in place at the moment.”
The IPOB leader clarified that his movement aims to liberate the people, not subject them to unnecessary hardship. He expressed disapproval of anyone causing harm or hardship to the people and warned that he authorized Ejimakor to issue a press statement if Ekpa fails to comply with the directive.
Kanu emphasized that those enforcing sit-at-home are not acting in his name and disassociated himself from any violence or mayhem perpetrated in the name of the protests. He highlighted that he is not seeking release from detention but expects Nigeria to abide by its own laws.
