BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu transferred to Sokoto Prison after life sentencing
The convicted leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been relocated from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto State.
His counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this in a post shared on his X handle on Friday.
“Breaking: Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto — so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones, and well-wishers,” Ejimakor wrote, expressing worry over limited access to his client.
Kanu’s transfer comes barely 24 hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him to life imprisonment.
On Thursday, Justice James Omotosho delivered a landmark judgment, convicting Kanu on all seven counts of terrorism filed against him by the Federal Government. The court held that the prosecution presented sufficient and credible evidence to establish its case.
Justice Omotosho also noted that Kanu opted not to defend himself, choosing instead to rest his case entirely on the prosecution’s evidence — a decision the judge said left the court with no alternative but to convict.
Speaking after the ruling, Ejimakor described the judgment as a “travesty of justice”, insisting that his client was denied a fair trial.
