Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has accepted the public apology from his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, emphasizing the human aspect of erring and the importance of forgiveness. The apology came on September 28, though the decision regarding Shaibu’s return to the official office remains undisclosed.
In his statement, Governor Obaseki acknowledged the apology from his deputy, emphasizing the need for improved conflict-resolution skills and urging Shaibu to guide his associates to act in line with his piety. He expressed hope that this reconciliation would mark the end of unwarranted provocations, allowing the administration to focus on delivering governance effectively in the remaining twelve months.
Earlier, Shaibu, a devout Catholic, extended his apology to Governor Obaseki on September 21, expressing remorse and a desire to reconcile. He reiterated his loyalty and commitment to their shared vision for the state, hoping to restore their former strong relationship for the benefit of Edo people.
Shaibu affirmed his dedication to the governor and recalled their supportive relationship, stating that any mistakes made were not out of malice. He sought forgiveness from Obaseki, aiming to rebuild their bond and work collaboratively to finish their tenure successfully.
