BREAKING: Onche Jonah, popular businessman shot dead in Benue

Onche Jonah, popular businessman has been shot dead in Naka, headquarters of Gwer West council of Benue State.

Salco, as Onche was fondly called by acquaintances, was gunned down Sunday morning by assailants believed to be robbers.

Naka is a busy town located on Makurdi-Adoka-Ankpa Road, about 24km from Makurdi, the state capital.

An indigene of the area, Torna Udam, told nesmen that the robbers also shot and killed one of their gang members, who was reportedly arrested last year wearing military camouflage alongside two others.

The three-man gang was said to have been terrorising residents of Naka town.

Udam said he gunmen stormed Jonah’s house at about 2am yesterday after scaling the fence.

They also ransacked other occupants’ apartments, carting away their valuables.

After the gunmen fled, residents rushed into the compound only to find the businessman’s body in a pool of blood in his room.

They equally found the body of one of the gunmen but It was unclear if he was killed by his gang members or by the house occupants.

Local police said the matter would be transferred to the state command for proper investigation.
