One person has been killed and several others injured after suspected bandits attacked the convoy of Abubakar Dauran, the Zamfara State Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs.
Daily Post reports that the gunmen attacked the commissioner on his way from Katsina State where he went to hand over the 26 kidnapped minors rescued by Zamfara State to the state government.
However, police in the state insisted that said the convoy was caught in a fire exchange between two bandits groups.
The state police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, in a statement said, “The government delegation led the commissioner of Security and Home Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Dauran was caught in a crossfire between two warring bandits groups at Dogon Karfi, GidanJaji, along Zurmi – Jibiya road, in Zurmi Local Government area of Zamfara State,” the statement said.
Shehu appealed to the general public to always assist the security agencies with useful information that could lead to the arrest of bandits.
