There is growing panic in Otobi-Akpa, a community in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, as armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen launched a fresh attack on the area on Tuesday evening.
A distressed resident, in a voice message obtained by citizen reporter, Meddy Olotu, raised an alarm over the scale of the assault, claiming the attackers numbered over a hundred and had divided themselves across different parts of the village.
“As I speak to you now, Otobi-Akpa is under heavy attack. These herdsmen have taken over the community. They are burning houses and killing people,” the resident said.
The witness described scenes of chaos, with residents — including children and the elderly — fleeing into surrounding areas to escape the violence.
“They killed my uncle and burnt down several houses. The attackers are so many and have spread throughout the village,” she added.
The resident appealed to security agencies and nearby communities to remain on high alert and intervene urgently to prevent further loss of lives and property.
At the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the Benue State Police Command or state authorities. The number of casualties remains unconfirmed as efforts to reach local officials are ongoing.
