At least 40 people are trapped under the rubble of a building that collapsed early Saturday in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
As of press time, sympathizers and emergency responders are on-site, working to rescue those still caught beneath the debris.
The building, reportedly under construction, collapsed in the early hours, spurring urgent calls for government agencies and emergency teams to assist with the rescue efforts.
Witnesses at the scene stressed the need for more support to expedite ongoing rescue operations.
“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse here in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja. People are under this rubble. It’s a construction site. We urge the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those trapped,” a witness reported.
This incident follows another recent collapse in Abuja’s Kubwa area, where a section of a two-story residential building came down. In that case, four individuals were rescued, while several others were initially feared trapped. The Kubwa collapse occurred near Cupid Hotel on Sultan Dasuki Way.
