BREAKING: Owukpa strange disease: Death toll in Benue community hits 70

No fewer than 70 persons have lost their lives to a strange disease that broke out in Owukpa, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State, IDOMA VOICE can confirm.

Latest report reaching our newsdesk Tuesday evening has it that three young men and several others have lost their lives between yesterday and today.

A source in the community hinted our reporter that one of the victims died in Agra, while two others died in Ugbugbu community.

“We now sit and wait for who is next. As we speak, three young men were buried today. Over 70 persons have died so far. Over 50 persons are lying critically ill. They are mostly youths.

“We have been abandoned. The federal government and the World Health Organisation should come to our aid,” Akor, a resident of the community told IDOMA VOICE Tuesday night.

A visit by IDOMA VOICE to Maranatha Clinic at Ukwo, showed that over 10 persons are currently on admission.

An auxiliary nurse told our reporter that most patients have been referred to St. Mary Hospital Okpoga and FMC Efekwo because “we could no longer handle them.”

“Most of them were vomiting profusely before giving up the ghost.

“I am even scared not because of this. The government needs to act fast,” she said.

A native of the community, Cent Melody, opined that Owukpa should do away with some shrines and some strange gods.

He wrote, “I spoke with my mum yesterday and she said some people came to our village to inject them with some stupid vaccine all In the name of a stupid yellow fever.

What is happening in our land is spiritual and not some stupid fever. I call on all the traditional rulers of our land to please arrange themselves and find a solution to all this death.

“Why is it only the future of the land (the youth) that the fever is killing? Why young people? Imagine that all these young blood and even more have lost their lives in just a short period of time. Owukpa should get away with some shrine and strange gods.

“They should find where this problem is coming from and look for a solution. From penis disappearing to yellow fever, how comes? May God heal our land and for those who lost their lives this critical season, may their souls continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
