The Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Richard Tombowua, declared on Sunday that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates won both the chairmanship and councillorship seats in the local government elections held on Saturday.
While announcing the results at the commission’s headquarters along Naka Road, Tombowua revealed that the APC secured all 23 chairmanship positions and 276 councillorship seats across the state.
He stated, “The election conducted yesterday across the state proceeded smoothly without any incidents. It was free, fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field. Based on the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions.”
Tombowua further noted that five of the eight political parties that submitted candidates participated in the election. The parties involved were the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
In response to the announcement, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council and Labour Party, Ibrahim Idoko, praised the commission for ensuring a smooth electoral process. He also commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for providing a fair and level playing field for all political parties. However, Idoko mentioned that his party would review the election outcome and release its position at a later time.
