Residents of Otukpo in Benue took to the streets on Monday morning to protest the high tuition fees and alleged denial of appointments and employment opportunities to locals at the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo (FUHSO).
The demonstrators marched through Otukpo township and the university’s temporary site, decrying the expensive tuition and accusing the management of deliberately excluding community members from employment opportunities in a institution situated in their ancestral land.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, residents expressed frustration over their children and wards being denied admission to the university.
FUHSO, established to facilitate access to specialized education, aims to make learning in specialized fields more accessible and affordable.
