BREAKING: Resident doctors declare daily nationwide protests
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared daily nationwide protests and picketing of federal health institutions as part of their ongoing nationwide indefinite strike. The protests are set to commence on Wednesday, 9th August at 10:00 am.
The decision was reached during the association’s National Executive Council (E-NEC) virtual meeting on Saturday. The notice, addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, was signed by the President of NARD, Dr. Orji Emeka Innocent, and the Secretary General, Dr. Chikezie Kelechi.
In the notice, NARD expressed their disappointment at the neglect of their demands by the parent ministry and the federal government. They emphasized that the protests are necessary to shed light on the challenges faced by resident doctors and the decay and corruption in the health sector.
Despite repeated ultimatums, the association feels that their sacrifices and patriotism have been undermined, leading them to resort to daily protests and picketing. They hope that the government will genuinely address their concerns before the scheduled date or face the consequences.
The federal government, on the other hand, has imposed a ‘No work, No pay policy’ on the striking resident doctors. In response, NARD remains steadfast in their stance, calling for the public to understand their side of the story and the issues plaguing the health sector.
As the situation unfolds, both parties remain firm in their positions, and the public is closely watching the developments in the healthcare sector.
