A group of twenty-seven lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Martin Amaewhule and believed to be aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has formally switched their party allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The legislators, who initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, cited internal divisions within the PDP as the primary reason for their defection.
In addition, they collectively passed a resolution on Monday, December 11, condemning the withholding of allocated funds for the House of Assembly’s management.
The session also saw the approval of the Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2023 for Second Reading, among other legislative tasks.
