BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu presents fresh cabinet nominees list to Lagos Assembly

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has submitted a second list of cabinet member-nominees to the Lagos State House of Assembly.

This comes after the House had previously confirmed 22 nominees while rejecting 17 out of the 39 nominees originally sent for ratification and confirmation a few weeks ago.

Among the rejected nominees from the previous list was Prof. Akin Abayomi, the former Commissioner for Health in the state, who is included in the new list.

The ad hoc committee led by Chief Whip Fatai Mojeed, which screened the initial nominees, will also be responsible for vetting the new set of nominees, as stated in a House statement posted on its official X handle on Monday.

Speaker Obasa called on the committee to oversee the new list sent by Governor Sanwo-Olu and report back to the House by Thursday, September 7, 2023. The statement emphasized the need for thoroughness in carrying out this exercise.

The rejection of the 17 nominees in the previous list had generated significant controversy among politicians and residents of the state. The Governance Advisory Council, the highest leadership body of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos, intervened to address the rejection and directed the governor and the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, to resolve their differences.

This development followed Obasa’s disclosure on the House floor about threats of attack on him and his colleagues, along with a warning against casting stones while living in glass houses.

Further details will be provided as the situation unfolds.
