BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu’s deputy chief of staff, Gboyega Soyannwo is dead

Gboyega Soyannwo, the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, has passed away at the age of 55 after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 15.
The Lagos State Government confirmed his demise in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, expressing deep sorrow over the loss. Governor Sanwo-Olu conveyed his condolences to the Soyannwo family, mourning the departure of a dedicated servant and brother.
Born on October 3, 1968, Soyannwo received his primary education at Corona School Victoria Island, Lagos, followed by secondary education at Kings College, Lagos. He pursued his A-Levels at the Federal School of Arts & Science before obtaining a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) Degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1992. He furthered his education with an MBA (General Management) from Lagos Business School.
Soyannwo commenced his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1992 and served in various capacities in institutions like Financial Services Consultants Limited, STACO Insurance Plc., and National Bank Of Nigeria Limited (now WEMA Bank Plc). He later worked at Zenith Bank Plc. and Oceanic Bank International Plc (now Eco Bank Plc.) before joining First Class Group Limited as Director of Finance and Strategy.
His dedication and competence led to his appointment as Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor from 2019 to 2023. He was re-appointed to the same position on June 8, 2023.
Gboyega Soyannwo is survived by his wife, Yewande Soyannwo, and their children. May his soul rest in peace.
