Security agencies stage show of force in Abuja amid subsidy protests

On Wednesday morning, security agencies conducted a show of force around the Federal Ministry of Justice, where officials of the Nigeria Labour Congress, representatives of the Civil Society, and concerned citizens were engaged in a protest against what they perceived as “anti-people” policies implemented by the President Bola Tinubu administration.

Patrol vans carrying personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps were observed moving around key locations like the Unity Fountain and the FMOJ as part of measures to prevent the protest from being infiltrated by non-state actors.

The protesters are planning to march towards the Federal Secretariat and National Assembly to voice their grievances.

Prominent figures participating in the protest include former NLC National President, Ayuba Wabba. At the time of reporting, no government representative had come forward to engage with the protesters.

The Federal Ministry of Justice, represented by its Permanent Secretary, Jeddy Agba, has already filed a motion to halt the protest, and there appears to be ongoing tension between the ministry and the labor center.

Further details will be provided as the situation develops.
