BREAKING: Senate passes Rivers 2025 Budget for second reading

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday passed the 2025 budget of Rivers State, totaling ₦1.48 trillion, for second reading.
The motion was presented by Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, who noted that the National Assembly had taken over legislative duties for the state following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers.
Supporting the motion, Senator Solomon Adeola (Olamilekan) emphasized the urgency of passing the budget to ensure governance and service delivery for the people of Rivers State.
He said, “Mr. President, while the document may not clearly state the context, it is evidently a budget under a state of emergency. I support its passage so that the people of Rivers can begin to feel the presence of government.”
With no objections raised, Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the motion to a voice vote. It was adopted and referred to the Ad-hoc Committee on the State of Emergency in Rivers for further legislative action.
