On Thursday, senators passed a vote of confidence in Senate President Godswill Akpabio, following rumors of an alleged plan to impeach him.
The vote came amid reports that some senators were plotting to remove Akpabio from office. Speculation surfaced on Wednesday through online media, suggesting that the presidency had deployed a significant number of Department of State Services (DSS) operatives to the National Assembly Complex to prevent senators from carrying out their constitutional duties, including a possible impeachment move.
Akpabio dismissed the allegations, asserting that the Senate remained united. The presidency also issued a statement refuting claims of any impeachment threat against him.
