The Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Friday, reinstated Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), overturning his removal by lower courts.
In a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-member panel, the apex court ruled that issues concerning the leadership or membership of a political party fall strictly within its internal affairs and should not be subject to judicial intervention.
As a result, the Supreme Court nullified the December 20, 2024, decision of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal as ordered by a Federal High Court in Enugu. The justices held that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case brought by Aniagwu Emmanuel.
