Senegal have clinched the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title after edging Morocco 1-0 in a tense final played on Sunday night.

The clash between Africa’s two highest-ranked teams in Rabat proved cagey, with neither side finding the net before halftime.

The second half appeared destined to end goalless after Ismaila Sarr’s headed effort was ruled out for an infringement on Achraf Hakimi.

Deep into stoppage time, Morocco were handed a highly disputed penalty, sparking heated protests that even saw Senegal’s players briefly leave the field. Brahim Diaz stepped up but his attempted panenka was easily stopped by Edouard Mendy.

In extra time, Pape Gueye delivered the decisive moment, curling a superb left-footed strike to seal victory for Senegal and crown the West Africans champions of the continent.
