BREAKING: Shettima wins as tribunal throws out suit seeking his disqualification
The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has made a decisive ruling, dismissing a suit presented by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) seeking the disqualification of Vice President Kashim Shettima. The tribunal cited a lack of jurisdiction as the basis for this ruling.
The APM had brought forward the case, contending that Vice President Shettima was improperly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) since he nominated Kashim Shettima as his vice-presidential candidate for the election.
The opposition party’s argument revolved around the claim that Shettima was still the APC candidate for Borno Central Senatorial District on July 14 when he accepted the nomination for the vice-presidential candidate.
However, in a verdict delivered on Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal declared that this case fell within the category of pre-election matters and, as such, was outside its jurisdiction to entertain. This ruling carries significant implications for the ongoing political landscape and sets a precedent regarding the handling of such disputes.
