The Supreme Court reserved its judgment in the appeal lodged by the Peoples Democratic Party challenging the appellate court’s decision to reinstate Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule on Tuesday.
The five-member panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, adjourned the proceedings, reserving judgment after hearing arguments from the counsel on the appeal. Kekere-Ekun indicated that the parties involved would be duly notified once the judgment is prepared.
Earlier, the state election petition tribunal had removed the governor, declaring David Ombugadu, the PDP candidate, as the victor in the March 18, 2023 election. In a split decision of two-to-one, the tribunal, led by Ezekiel Ajayi, concluded that the PDP candidate had substantiated his claim of manipulated poll results favoring Sule after evaluating the presented evidence.
However, the appeal court reinstated Governor Sule, asserting that the tribunal had erroneously relied on the statements of eight PDP witnesses, whose evidence was not initially submitted alongside the petition.
In response, Ombugadu appealed this decision to the Supreme Court.
