BREAKING: Supreme Court upholds president’s right to declare emergency rule, suspend elected officials

The Supreme Court has reaffirmed that the President is constitutionally empowered to declare a state of emergency in any part of the country where security or governance is under serious threat.

In its ruling, the apex court stated that the President may invoke emergency powers to forestall a total breakdown of law and order or to prevent situations from degenerating into chaos and anarchy.

The court explained that such authority exists to protect national stability and preserve the effective operation of democratic institutions during extraordinary circumstances.

The justices, however, stressed that the declaration of emergency rule is an exceptional measure, to be applied only when existing governance structures are incapable of resolving grave and escalating crises.
