Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Wednesday attacked the Odugbeho community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, killing the community’s district head, Chief Tony Adejo.

According to a local source, Mr. Edo Seidu, the monarch was murdered in cold blood while working on his farm at about 10:00 a.m.

Seidu revealed that the attackers took Chief Adejo’s mobile phone and other personal items. Their involvement was reportedly confirmed when calls made to the late chief’s phone were answered by his killers.

“I spoke with him on Tuesday, and we had an appointment to meet on Wednesday. When I couldn’t reach him, I called—only to be told this heartbreaking news,” Seidu said.

He described the slain traditional ruler as a man of peace and humility, respected by all regardless of status or background.

As of the time of this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, CSP Catherine Anene, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
