BREAKING: Suspected herdsmen kill six in fresh Benue attack

At least six farmers are feared dead after suspected herders, posing as bandits, attacked the Tse Ugema community in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
IDOMA VOICE reports that following the incident, many farmers have fled the area, and numerous others sustained injuries.
A resident, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the violence began when stray cattle wandered into farmlands, damaging crops and barn structures. In response, local youths mobilized to drive the cattle away.
Unbeknownst to them, herders concealed in nearby bushes opened fire, killing six on the spot while others fled with varying injuries—some remain missing.
The witness added that calls were made to Nigerian Army personnel stationed at Wuaze village, just meters from the attack site. However, upon encountering a heavy presence of herdsmen, the soldiers retreated back to their camp.
Efforts to reach a comment from the state police were unsuccessful, as Police Public Relations Officer Catherine Anene did not respond to calls.
