BREAKING: Tension as hoodlums clash with Hausa traders in Makurdi market, set mosque ablaze

There was a momentary apprehension at the popular Makurdi modern market on Friday after hoodlums stormed the market causing mayhem.

Traders and buyers scampered for safety as the market was forced to close.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that a mosque at the village market close to the modern market was set ablaze by the hoodlums.

“Trouble started after some armed angry youths stormed the market causing mayhem targeting mostly Hausa/Muslims traders. The irate mob went to the village market and burnt the Hausa mosque,” a source told  IDOMA VOICE correspondent.

The cause of the provocation was yet to be ascertained but some sources disclosed that the outburst by the angry youths was in retaliation of the recent wave of killings across the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen militia.

The Benue State Police Command was yet to comment on the incident as at the time of filing this report.
