BREAKING: Tension as Plateau Assembly members resume sitting
The Police Command has heightened security measures at the Plateau Assembly in response to the decision of the 16 former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers to resume their session today, despite being dismissed by the Appeal Court. Armed policemen were reportedly stationed at the Old Government House Jos venue of the session as early as 5 am.
An anonymous Police Inspector informed The Nation, stating, “We are under instructions to screen anyone coming to the venue to ascertain whether they are staff or potential troublemakers.” The deployment of security personnel is seen as a preemptive action against any potential disruption of the session by unruly individuals.
Concerns are raised about a possible clash between the 16 PDP lawmakers, ousted by the Court of Appeal, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers, declared winners by the same court. As of the time of this report, neither the PDP nor APC legislators have arrived at the temporary Chamber of the Old Government House to initiate the plenary session.
