President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, granted his approval for the constitution of a fresh leadership team for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), pending Senate confirmation.
The newly appointed members include Dr. Musa Aliyu, who will serve as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the ICPC, and Mr. Clifford Oparaodu, who will take on the role of Secretary to the Commission at ICPC.
Additionally, President Tinubu has given his consent to the request for a pre-end-of-tenure leave for the outgoing ICPC Chairman, Prof. Bolaji Owosanoye, set to commence on November 4, 2023, preceding the conclusion of his tenure on February 3, 2024.
The President’s authority to make these appointments is grounded in Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, as articulated in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
Titled ‘President Tinubu appoints new ICPC management team; approves 90-day pre-end-of-tenure leave for outgoing ICPC Chairman,’ the statement clarifies that while the role of Chairman mandates Senate confirmation, the position of Secretary to the Commission does not necessitate the same.
Dr. Musa Aliyu, who previously served as the Attorney-General of Jigawa State since September 2019, boasts an impressive academic background with Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Law. He was also designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October 2023.
Mr. Clifford Oparaodu, with over three decades of legal experience, has held various roles in the public service, including membership on the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.
The President has urged the newly appointed ICPC management team to demonstrate unwavering commitment to integrity and impartiality in addressing all matters within their purview.
