President Bola Tinubu has appointed Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) following the commencement of pre-retirement leave for the current AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
Ogunjimi’s appointment, which takes immediate effect, ensures a smooth transition in the management of Nigeria’s national treasury and supports the ongoing implementation of the government’s treasury reforms.
A statement from President Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, highlighted Ogunjimi’s extensive qualifications, noting that as a career civil servant, he is the most senior director at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) with over 30 years of experience in financial management across both public and private sectors. Ogunjimi has previously served as Director of Funds at OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ogunjimi holds several professional certifications, including chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. His academic background includes a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to effectively manage the OAGF, stating, “His wealth of experience and exceptional competence will ensure the continued success of this critical institution as we pursue our economic reform agenda.”
The President also commended Dr. Madein for her unwavering commitment and selfless service to the nation. Dr. Madein, having reached the civil service’s statutory retirement age, will officially retire on March 7, 2025.
