President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments for the Directors-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The President also sacked Abba Yusuf Bichi and appointed Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director-General of the DSS.

Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed has been named the new Director-General of the NIA.

The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. The statement highlighted Ambassador Mohammed’s distinguished career in the foreign service since joining the NIA in 1995, including his role as the head of the Nigerian mission to Libya. A 1990 graduate of Bayero University, Kano, Mohammed has served in various countries, including North Korea, Pakistan, and Sudan, as well as at the State House in Abuja.

Mr. Adeola Ajayi, the new DSS Director-General, previously served as Assistant Director-General and has held various positions, including State Director in Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi.

These changes follow the resignation of the previous NIA and DSS chiefs. President Tinubu expects the new leaders to enhance the effectiveness of the intelligence agencies and address the country’s security challenges through improved collaboration with other agencies and alignment with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The President also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Directors-General for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
