Transport union pulls out of NLC strike, protest

Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo and Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages, has stated that transport operators in Lagos State will not be taking part in the nationwide protest organized by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). The protest, scheduled for today, is in response to the recent hike in fuel prices following the subsidy removal by the federal government.

In a statement, MC Oluomo highlighted that the transport operators have decided not to join the NLC’s protest due to the conducive environment provided by the Lagos State government for their operations. He noted that the state government has implemented interventions to support commercial transport operators and address issues such as high food prices and transport fares.

The statement read in part: “After much deliberations and review, we discussed the high cost of food, transport fares, and other areas of public interest, in particular, the plan by the organized Labour union, i.e., the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to call workers out on a strike action. After careful discussion, we concluded that we will not be part of any strike or protest rally being planned to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the issue being debated in the country.”

MC Oluomo emphasized that the Lagos State government has created a conducive atmosphere for their operations, and as a result, they see no reason to join any strike that may threaten the peace of the state. He expressed the unequivocal stance of the Lagos State Parks and Garages in rejecting any form of strike or protest initiated by any group or organized labor.

The NLC’s nationwide protest is set to address the concerns over the recent fuel price hike, which followed the removal of fuel subsidies by the federal government. The decision has been met with resistance from various groups and labor unions across the country.
