The Local Government Election Petition Tribunal sitting at NBA House in Abuja has sacked Maxwell Ogiri as the Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area.
Ogiri, a loyalist of Governor Hyacinth Alia, was removed following a petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, backed by the camp of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
The tribunal upheld the petitioners’ claims and declared the APC candidate duly elected, nullifying Ogiri’s victory in the contested council poll.
This ruling marks another major win for the Akume-led APC faction in the ongoing tribunal judgments over the recent local government elections in Benue State.
