Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, has arrived at the National Assembly for his ministerial screening, accompanied by his wife and a group of followers.
The Senate is set to commence the screening process for the initial batch of ministerial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu.
As a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike was among the first group of ministerial nominees recommended by Tinubu to the Senate.
During the February 2023 presidential election, Wike notably broke ranks with the PDP and threw his support behind Tinubu, instead of the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
It is widely speculated that Wike’s nomination as a minister is seen as a gesture of appreciation for his endorsement and backing of Tinubu during the election.
