British singer, Lily Allen reveals why she returned her adopted puppy, Mary

British singer Lily Allen recently confessed that she had to return an adopted puppy after it destroyed her family’s passports.

During a recent episode of her podcast, “Miss Her?”, Allen shared that she adopted a puppy named Mary during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. However, after the dog chewed up her passport and those of her two daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11, she decided to return the pet.

Allen explained that the incident caused significant complications, as the passports also contained their visas. The situation became particularly challenging since it occurred during the pandemic, making it difficult and costly to replace the documents. As a result, her daughters were unable to visit their father in England for several months.

“I just couldn’t look at her,” Allen said, “You’ve ruined my life.” She added that the dog’s destructive behavior extended beyond the passports, and despite her best efforts to train the puppy, things didn’t work out. The passport incident was the breaking point.

Although Allen lives in New York with her husband, actor David Harbour, her two children are from her previous marriage to Sam Cooper, who resides in the UK.

In response to her story, animal rights organization PETA has written an open letter to Allen, urging her not to adopt another dog. The organization emphasized that pets should not be treated as accessories and discarded when they become inconvenient.
