Buhari, Obaseki, two others off to Egypt for Peace, Devt Forum

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is among President Muhammadu Buhari’s delegation to Egypt for the Peace and Development Forum holding in the city of Aswan.

Other governors on the delegation are Ahmadu Fintiri and Mai Mala Buni of Adamawa and Yobe States respectively. The Minister of Defence, National Security Adviser and Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA) are also among the team to Egypt.

The delegation jetted off to Egypt on Tuesday, December 10, for the Forum, which holds from December 11 – 12, in Aswan.

An initiative by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in his capacity as the chairman of the African Union (AU), the forum seeks to address the interconnections between peace and development in Africa, while promoting Africa-led solutions through strengthening policies and practices.

Governor Obaseki, who has pioneered far-reaching reforms in basic education, primary healthcare, industrialisation and urban development in Edo State, will be contributing his insights from investment banking and public policy formation during the sessions in Aswan.

The governor is also at the forefront of the international campaign against human trafficking and irregular migration, which is a hot topic at the AU and other multilateral organisations across the world.

The governor’s campaign has gotten accolades from international development institutions and foreign governments who have acknowledged the improved and impactful strategy employed by the state in containing human trafficking as well as the Governor Obaseki’s developmental policies that have engendered a new sense of purpose in youths in the state, who hitherto constituted the largest chunk of trafficked persons.
