President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday unveil the e-Naira.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN,made this known on Saturday.
A statement issued on Saturday by CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, stated that the e-Naira is now expected to be activated on Monday by the president.
The CBN Director who stated that the launching would take place at the States House, Abuja, noted that the “e-Naira is a culmination of many years of research work by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN in advancing the boundaries of payments system in order to make financial transactions easier and seamless for every strata of Nigerian society.
“Sequel to a series of engagements with most relevant stakeholders including the banking community, merchants, fintech operators and indeed, a cross section of Nigerians, the Central Bank designed the digital currency, which shall be activated on Monday, October 25, 2021.
“The e-Naira therefore marks a major step forward in the evolution of money and the CBN is committed to ensuring that the e-Naira, like the physical Naira, is accessible by everyone”.
According to the statement the launching of the e-Naira would mark the beginning of more research for the enhancement of the platform.
