In a heartbreaking incident in Mgbemena, Coal Camp, Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, a building collapse on Friday resulted in the tragic loss of four siblings.
Hon. Uche Anya, the chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA), visited the accident site to offer his condolences.
Anya expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of innocent children in the catastrophe. He revealed that the structure, originally approved for animal husbandry, had been converted into a residential building, raising serious concerns about its suitability for human habitation.
“We swiftly responded to the incident upon receiving the distressing news. Regrettably, four children lost their lives in this devastating event,” Anya lamented.
He further denounced the construction of the building as irresponsible, emphasizing that it was never intended for human occupancy. Anya encouraged people to visit the site and witness the conditions firsthand.
The ECTDA chairman underscored the agency’s unwavering commitment to promoting public awareness regarding the necessity of living in safe and habitable environments to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
