Bulus Babuja: How Radio DJ slumped, died on duty in Jos

A studio engineer with the Plateau Radio Television Corporation, PRTVC, Jos, Mr. Bulus Babuja has died of suspected cardiac arrest.

Babuje died on Thursday after collapsing on duty, during a late night shift, it is said.

He is believed to have been managing work-related stress for a long time, but hardly showed symptoms until Tuesday.

An on-air-personality in the station, Mr. Kenzy Ngupar wrote on Facebook, that he was on duty with the engineer before his collapse on Thursday.

“We worked on same duty/shift last week Thursday. We joked and discussed something we both were supposed to do which I did and you said you will do yours before we meet on our next shift which should have been this past tuesday but came to office and met a replacement that you fell ill and couldn’t make it.

“I was optimistic we would still conclude our assignment as I thought it would just be a minor pain and get back but alas God had his plans to call you,” said heartbroken Kenzy.

It is not sure whether Mr. Babuje died on arrival at the hospital, but he was said to have been confirmed dead in the hospital.

Babuje, fondly called Mukaka was a loving family man. Kenzy Ngupar, his work colleague said Babuje inspired him to “Always ensure you take as much as you spend on friends ouside, to your family at home because they are the real reason for the hustle.”

He was generally peaceful and jovial, always smiling and cracking jokes, said a family friend, Beauty Ashe.

“I still can’t believe this. My heart is so broken. We spoke, we laughed at each other, rendered joking insults as usual so it was the last????

“What a jovial and simple man kai sir Bulus Babuje, Bush as we always call each other,” wrote Beauty on Facebook.

Many more people including his boss, Mr. Jephther Jackden have expressed sadness over his demise, but perhaps, the most heartbroken is his wife, Vick, his mother and kids.

As of the time of writing this report, all of them had yet to overcome the shock of his demise and could therefore not speak to press.

Even his brother, Basky Babuoje could not hold back years. “You just decided to leave and left me devastated. Can’t stop crying,” he wrote on Facebook.

To his colleagues, Bulus was a supportive and understanding partner, and would be missed for so many reasons.

His fans and friends have also written many eulogies about him. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
