Niger Coup: Burna Boy Advises Tinubu to Address Nigeria’s Fuel Crisis
Grammy-winning Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has shared his thoughts on President Bola Tinubu’s proposal for military intervention in Niger Republic following a coup in the Sahelian nation.
In response to President Tinubu’s attempt to seek Senate support for a military response to the military junta in Niger, a request that was ultimately declined, Burna Boy took to a live session on associate Mannny’s Instagram to offer his perspective.
Burna Boy urged President Tinubu to prioritize resolving the fuel scarcity issue in Nigeria, which arose due to the sudden removal of fuel subsidies and led to a surge in pump prices.
Speaking in Pidgin English, Burna Boy humorously remarked, “What’s the matter sef? They’re saying we’re about to go to war [laughs]. Fuel isn’t available and you want to go fight a war. How do you even get to the battlefield? Are you going to use… what are they using for that generator? Gas generator. It’s surprising. Nigeria’s troubles never seem to end.”
Burna Boy’s comments emphasize the need for addressing pressing domestic concerns, such as the fuel crisis, before considering military interventions.
