Newly promoted Premier League side Burnley has reached an agreement with Espanyol to sign promising Nigerian winger Luca Koleosho during this summer’s transfer window, as reported by the Daily Telegraph.
The 18-year-old winger has garnered attention for his talent at Espanyol, where he has already made six senior appearances. Koleosho’s journey to the first team started with his debut against Granada in May 2022, and he continued to impress, scoring his first senior goal in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Almeria last season.
According to sources, Burnley will pay a transfer fee of approximately €3 million to secure the services of the highly-rated youngster.
Burnley is focused on strengthening their squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign and recently completed the signing of Zeki Amdouni from Basel on a five-year contract.
With the potential acquisition of Koleosho, Burnley looks to bolster their squad further, and he could become their sixth signing of the summer. However, it remains to be seen whether he will initially join the Under-21 team or be considered for the first team.
Born in the United States to a Nigerian father and an Italian-Canadian mother, Koleosho is eligible to represent multiple national teams, including the United States, Canada, Nigeria, and Italy.
Having been part of the USA U-15 team in August 2019, Koleosho later received a call-up to Canada’s senior side in June 2022. Despite that, he has kept his options open and hasn’t ruled out representing the United States.
Furthermore, in March 2023, Koleosho accepted a call-up to the Italy U-19 national team, showcasing his versatility and potential. Most recently, he was included in the Italian squad for the UEFA European U-19 Championship in Malta, where the Azzurrini secured their second continental title.
