Renowned business mogul Aminu Dantata has expressed his endorsement of the parliamentary system of leadership, which some legislators are advocating for Nigeria. Dantata made this statement during an advocacy visit by some members of the House of Representatives, led by Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, to his residence in Kano on Thursday.
Dantata articulated his perspective, stating, “Thank you very much for coming to my house: I pray for the success of this gigantic movement. Parliamentary system is better for this country as it is much cheaper while presidential is too expensive. I pray you have the support of your colleagues and pray Allah should give you wisdom and guide you to achieve this noble job in assisting this country.”
He emphasized the need for a different approach to governance in Nigeria, highlighting the challenges the country currently faces. Dantata conveyed optimism about the prospects of garnering more support for the cause, expressing his belief that Nigeria requires a transformation from its current state.
Earlier, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda outlined the rationale behind the proposed transition to a parliamentary system, citing concerns about the escalating cost of governance and the need for more effective decision-making and accountability mechanisms.
Chinda stressed the importance of a parliamentary system in addressing Nigeria’s diverse challenges, asserting that it would lead to stronger political ideologies, party discipline, and national unity.
Responding to concerns about the consequences of such a transition, Chinda emphasized that the parliamentary system would consolidate the unity of the nation, strengthen political ideologies, and reduce emphasis on tribal and religious affiliations.
